The new GST rate cut has been imposed, and its impact has been visible from the very first day. With GST 2.0 tax cuts now in force, people rushed to grab deals on air-conditioners and televisions, while local kirana shops noticed more people buying daily essentials and food items.

The new GST regime has replaced the older four-slab system with just two rates: 5% and 18%. The change began right with the festive season, giving families an extra reason to shop.

From soaps and shampoos to ACs and TVs, the GST rate effect was clear. Prices have dropped, demand has picked up, and retailers say the festive sales are off to a strong start. For anyone asking when new GST rates will be applicable, it’s already here, with lower prices reaching stores from day one.

Appliance Sales Surge After GST Rate Cut

The biggest impact of the GST 2.0 tax cuts was seen in the home appliance market. Haier India said its dealers had already sold twice as many units by 5 pm compared to a regular Monday.

Television makers also saw a sharp pickup. Super Plastronics Pvt Ltd (SPPL), which sells brands like Thomson, Kodak, and Blaupunkt, said sales of 43-inch and 55-inch TVs jumped by 30–35% after the GST rate reduction. The company added that online platforms, such as Flipkart and Amazon, also drove strong demand.

Blue Star’s MD said sales could grow by around 20% compared to last September, especially as e-commerce sales and festive offers kick in. Many dealers even linked purchases to the “Shubh Aarambh” festive sentiment, showing how the new GST regime and festival season are working together to boost demand.

Daily Essentials & FMCG Impact

Neighbourhood kirana shops noticed a small but steady rise in sales of daily essentials and food products.

FMCG companies moved quickly to pass on the GST rate reduction to customers. Prices of soaps, shampoos, baby diapers, toothpaste, razors, and even after-shave lotions were revised. New MRPs are now reaching store shelves, although in some places, buyers complained about delays or confusion over updated price tags.

GST Benefits to Buyer: How to File a Complaint

One concern with every GST rate cut is whether the benefit actually reaches customers. To make sure businesses don’t keep charging old prices, the Ministry of Consumer Affairs has created a dedicated GST category on the INGRAM portal.

On this Integrated Grievance Redressal Mechanism, consumers can lodge complaints.

  • Shoppers can report if retailers fail to reduce prices after the new GST regime.
  • Complaints can be filed under sectors like FMCG, consumer durables, automobiles, banking, and e-commerce.
  • Officials from the Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs (CBIC) have also trained helpline counsellors to handle GST-related complaints.

The government has made it clear that businesses must pass on the benefits of GST rate reductions to consumers without delay.

Conclusion

With the festive season approaching, businesses are expecting to deliver strong sales through Navratra and Diwali, with momentum to continue. For consumers, this means more savings at checkout. For businesses, it signals a promising festive quarter. And for policymakers, it shows that a well-timed GST rate reduction can directly lift demand and support economic growth.
