Nearly 400 infrastructure proposals across ministries have moved through the PM GatiShakti approval pipeline, according to government data. The Network Planning Group has evaluated 396 projects since the initiative launched on October 13, 2021, with roads, railways, and other connectivity-related sectors accounting for the bulk of the plan.

The Network Planning Group acts as the evaluation channel for large logistics and connectivity proposals under the GatiShakti framework. Any project involving an investment of more than ₹500 crore is routed through this mechanism before it can proceed to sanction.
The stated objective is integrated infrastructure development rather than planning roads, railways, ports, and related assets in isolation. Reducing logistics costs through coordinated planning across sectors is central to the initiative’s design.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi referred to the programme during his Independence Day address from the Red Fort on August 15. He said the country must focus on seamless and fast connectivity under Gati Shakti, framing it as an ongoing national priority rather than a completed exercise.

Suryansh Jalan, Chief Business Officer at FarEye, said GatiShakti must connect the entire logistics journey from factory gate to consumer doorstep, and not only cities and ports.
He outlined three elements he said were needed alongside physical infrastructure:

- Intelligent routing to optimise movement
- Predictable last-mile execution to reduce delivery uncertainty

He added that combining multimodal infrastructure with these digital capabilities can reduce movement costs, improve the competitiveness of Indian businesses, and turn India’s logistics network into a strategic economic asset.
