Factor/s behind the surge in Anchor Investment

The continuous flow of money into equity mutual funds has been one of the primary causes of MFs investing enormous amounts as anchor investors. Even the overall domestic institutional investments have been mainly driven by the mutual fund houses for the past four years.

In 2024, the inflow of funds into equity mutual funds has jumped to ₹ 3.53 lakh crore compared to ₹ 1.61 lakh crore in the previous two years separately.

Wrapping up

SEBI’s vision behind introducing anchor investors in 2009 has now been realized with a stable IPO market, which is growing significantly well where investor’s confidence has been boosted and the gap between retail investors and companies issuing IPO has been bridged. All these have been possible with significant investments from the anchor investments.
