NTPC Green Energy Limited, which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of NTPC, has secured a 1000 MW solar energy project on Wednesday, 4 June 2025. It is in the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited’s (UPPCL) solar PV power project auction, where the power giant won the project for building a 1000 MW capacity.

Details of the New Project

This is a solar PV power project to build a solar power capacity of 1000 MW solar power generation. The Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) has been signed at a discovered tariff of ₹2.56 per kWh of power, between NTPC Green Energy and UPPCL during the UPPCL auction

NTPC Green Energy and Honeywell Partnership

Earlier this week, there was another major partnership deal between NTPC Green Energy and Honeywell India. This deal is for exploring SAF production opportunities in the country, which is derived from non-petroleum feedstocks. SAF helps in reducing air transport emissions.

As per this partnership deal, the eFining technology of Honeywell will be used for producing SAF from carbon dioxide. This is the CO2 that is captured in the power plants and green hydrogen plants of NTPC. Production of SAF can diversify the green fuel portfolio of NTPC further.

The plan of action that NTPC has suggested includes blending of SAF into jet fuels, which can offer a low-carbon energy solution and thus strengthen the company’s standing in the market.

Recent Quarterly Results of NTPC Green Energy

NTPC Green Energy reported its Q4 results recently as well, where you can see a massive 3X increase in its net profit from ₹81 crore in Q4FY24 to ₹233 crore in Q4FY25. The revenue for the quarter surged by 22.5% from ₹508 crore to ₹622.3 crore during the same period.

In the report, NTPC Green Energy Limited reconfirmed that it is aiming to expand its renewable capacity to 40 GW by FY32, which will increase its total capacity to 60 GW. This 1000 MW capacity increase is a step towards that target. Furthermore, NTPC is expecting to commission a 14 GW pumped hydro capacity within the next 6-9 years.

Wrapping up

With the new 1000 MW capacity increase project that NTPC Green has won, it will be interesting to see how the company inches towards its 40 GW goal by FY32. This is undoubtedly a major win not only for the company but for the entire sector of Green Energy in India.
