The power sector is all in the news with the recent announcements in the Union Budget FY25-26 and for the power sector q3 results. While in the budget, the Finance Minister, Nirmala Sitharaman announced some big amendments and investment allocation for this sector, the results for the third quarter on the other hand also seem fair and positive for the sector. With the private sector being allowed to take part in the atomic energy segment, the government opened up doors for future investments and opportunities. The infrastructure investment in this sector has been allotted a whopping ₹1.5 lakh crore for state capex which is expected to strengthen the core sectors of the nation. The long-term plan for FY25 to FY30 has also been announced where the government committed ₹10 lakh crore investment into new projects to boost energy sector and infrastructure needs.
While these are just the tip of the iceberg, there are more coming for the sector which will boost power sector growth but for now, let’s see how the results for the third quarter going for the sector.
- Tata Power: The Tata Power Q3 Result was announced yesterday, 4 February 2025 when it can be seen that the revenue has gone up by 5% YoY in the October-December quarter. The revenue stands at ₹15391 crore in this Q3 while a year back it was ₹14651 crore. The net profit went up from ₹817 crore in Q3FY24 to ₹1001 crore in Q3FY25. Thus, the net profit went up by 22% while is a significant rise.
- Torrent Power: The Torrent Power Q3 Result shows a growth of 2% in its revenue YoY when the revenue in Q3FY25 has been recorded at ₹6499 crore, which was at ₹6366 crore a year back for the corresponding quarter. The net profit for the period went up 30% from this 2% rise in revenue. The net profit stood at ₹374 crore in Q3FY24, while in Q3FY25 it was ₹489 crore.
- Power Grid Corporation: This power giant saw some decline in the third quarter results. The Power Grid Q3 Result shows a decline of 2% in the revenue, while the net profit was down by 4% in the October-December quarter compared to last fiscal’s corresponding quarter. The revenue stood at ₹11233 crore in Q3FY25 while it was ₹11550 crore in Q3FY24. Similarly, the net profit dropped from ₹4066 crore to ₹3867 crore in Q3FY25.
- Adani Power: This power giant witnessed some good revenue growth in the third quarter however, the net profit didn’t grow like Tata Power or Torrent Power. The revenue of Adani Power went up from ₹12991 crore in Q3FY24 to ₹13671 crore in Q3FY25 showing a 5% growth. While the net profit went up from ₹2738 crore to ₹2940 crore which is a 7% growth recorded in Q3FY25 on YoY basis.
- NTPC: This thermal power giant witnessed a mixed result for the third quarter. The NTPC Q3 result shows 5% increase in the revenue from ₹42820 crore to ₹45053 crore while its net profit went down from ₹4867 crore to ₹4712 crore indicating a 3% decline YoY.

While these five are the top power companies in India, the overall Power sector q3 results have been positive till now. It will be interesting to see how the upcoming results turn up and how the budget allocations shape up the sector for future needs.
