Stock Exchanges, whether the National Stock Exchange (NSE) or the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), work similarly to other government and corporate offices. As national and public holidays are observed across the organizations, NSE and BSE also observe some holidays which can be referred to as share market holidays.
In this article, we will discuss the different holidays that the stock exchanges observe to help traders and investors plan their trades accordingly.
What are share market holidays and how do they work?
Before you dig into the detailed list of holidays, let’s understand how stock market holidays are determined. Stock Market holidays are more uniform to maintain order in the market. The holidays that are referred to as trading holidays are mostly national holidays and significant festivals which are observed in different parts of the country.
The holidays are observed across equity, derivates, and commodities segments, and also no trading or investment activities take place on these share market holidays. To keep the market in sync, the holidays are announced in the beginning of the calendar year by the stock exchanges.
