Women in asset management have been rising in the past few years, with more women coming into the world of finance and investments, which is predominated by men. While the number of women asset managers moved up from 42 to 49 YoY at the end of January 2025, the asset under management (AUM) significantly doubled to ₹13.45 lakh crore. Having said that, the share of women fund managers is still at its nascent phase. However, after two years, the number of women asset managers has gone up this year, which is a sign of change and progress. 

Asset Under Management of Women Fund Managers

As of 31 January 2025, the asset under management of women fund managers only makes up 20% or ₹13.45 lakh crore of the total AUM in the Indian mutual fund industry. In January 2025, the total asset in the MF industry jumped to ₹34.25 lakh crore, a rise of 27.52% on a YoY basis. 

As per Morningstar Investment Research India’s report 2024, women fund managers, whether solely or co-managed, had a total of ₹6.66 lakh crore until 31 January 2024 which was 12.63% of the entire AUM in the industry. 

As per ACE MF data, the number of total fund managers in India as of 31 January 2025 stood at 482 up from 473 in the past year, while out of this, only 49 are women. While it seems too minuscule, but the number has been growing, which is a good sign. It has increased to 10.17% compared to last year’s 8.88% which shows the women fund managers growth

Out of 49 women fund managers, the top five manage almost 45.55% of the AUM, that is ₹6.13 lakh crore.

While the number of women in the asset management industry is still very few, but it is rising, which shows that the interest of women in this field is growing, and it also indicates the changing mindset of investors who are putting faith in women fund managers, and why not?
