Lost Track of Old PF Accounts? EPFO Plans New E-PRAAPTI Portal
EPFO is planning to launch E-PRAAPTI, a new digital platform for members who may have lost access to earlier provident fund savings.
The move is aimed at helping people reconnect with unused EPF balances, especially accounts created before the Universal Account Number system was introduced in 2014.
What Is E-PRAAPTI?
E-PRAAPTI stands for EPF Aadhaar-Based Access Portal for Tracking Inoperative Accounts.
The platform is expected to use Aadhaar authentication to verify members and securely enable them to access account details. It may also support profile updates and UAN linking for older EPF records.
Why Is EPFO Launching This Portal?
Many employees changed jobs before the Universal account number was introduced. As a result, some provident fund balances were left behind, especially when members did not transfer or withdraw them.
EPFO wants to reduce such idle balances by making it easier for members to locate details, update profiles, and connect older records to their current retirement accounts.
What Are Inoperative PF Accounts?
Inoperative PF accounts or dormant PF accounts are employees’ provident fund accounts that have not been used for 36 consecutive months (3 years).
This usually happens when:
- An employee leaves a job, retires, or passes away.
- Stops contributing to the PF account from the employer/employee
- Does not transfer the balance to a new employer’s EPF account
- Does not withdraw the amount.

How Will the Aadhaar-Based Portal Work?
In the first phase, the platform will be member ID-based. This means members who still have their old ID may be able to use it first.
Later, EPFO may expand the service for people who cannot remember or access their previous member IDs. The portal is also expected to reduce paperwork and improve transparency.
Who Can Benefit From E-PRAAPTI?
The portal may help people who switched jobs several years ago and no longer remember their earlier EPF details.
It can be especially useful for members with pre-2014 accounts, as job changes before the UAN system often created separate PF records.
Why Is E-PRAAPTI Important for EPF Members?
For many workers, old PF money remains unused simply because account details are incomplete, outdated, or hard to trace.
E-PRAAPTI can make the recovery process easier by giving members a more organised way to access past savings and bring them under their current retirement record.

Final Thought
EPFO’s planned E-PRAAPTI portal could make it easier for members to reconnect with old provident fund savings through Aadhaar-based access.
For anyone who has changed jobs and lost track of earlier PF details, the platform may offer a clearer way to update information and link past balances with UAN.
