On Thursday, 16 Jan 2025, the Ministry of Defence contracts with Bharat Dynamics worth ₹ 2960 crore for Medium-Range Surface-to-Air Missiles (MRSAM) supply. In the presence of the Defence Secretary, Rajesh Kumar Singh, the deal was signed by both parties and it is believed that this deal will help boost the country’s current efforts to ramp up defence capabilities and make advancements in the field of military technology.
MoD & Bharat Dynamics Deal
The mrsam system is one of the most versatile Indian defence systems that is used for multiple Naval ships in India. This system will be further upgraded to be used for the naval platforms that are now being acquired.
As per the contract, Bharat Dynamics Limited (BDL) will be supplying these missiles under the ‘Buy Indian’ category which is mostly indigenous content.
This ₹2960 crore deal is expected to benefit the economy as well by generating 3.5 lakh man-days of employment which can help MSMEs working in the defence sector. The project will build a supply chain which can benefit these enterprises.
Share Market Reaction
As the deal was announced on Thursday, the BDL shares went up by 6% in the second half of Thursday’s trading session. In the past five trading sessions, the share price gained over 20% which is mainly owing to this deal. Today, as of 1:15 pm the share of Bharat Dynamics is trading around ₹1330.95, gaining around 4.29% from the previous close.
